Pajarito Astronomers is a club consisting of approximately 60 professional and amateur astronomers from throughout northern New Mexico who observe in and around Los Alamos County.
Observing: The Pajarito Astronomers hold County-Sponsored "Dark Nights" at Overlook Park in White Rock, New Mexico. These sessions are open to the public and occur once a month on a Saturday evening beginning at dusk.
Members have additional opportunities to observe at "Second Chance Star Parties" scheduled around the new Moon and usually held at the Sportsman's Club in Rendija Canyon.
Outreach and Education: On request, club members provide constellation and telescope tours of the night sky for organizations and school classes. club members also provide planetarium shows at schools or fairs in cooperation with the Los Alamos National Laboratory Educational Outreach Office. The club sponsors awards at the Los Alamos County Science Fair each year.
Public Talks: As a community service, the Pajarito Astronomers sponsors approximately six public talks each year in Los Alamos. Invited speakers cover a wide variety of topics in space science, astronomy, and astrophysics.
